Something that I wanted to explore was creating a book to go with the costume in the exhibition. I liked the idea of creating a book that folded out and had moving parts, so it becomes a character itself.
I thought this would go well with the storytelling side of my theme, creating something that could go with the costume, like a puppet that goes with a theatre.
The dummy books I made started off small, trying to get the shapes right. i started off with a true bear shape, but this didn't look very book like at all, see below:
I then started with A3 paper as the body so it could be folded in half, and then added the body parts separately.
Once I was happy with this layout, I started putting some illustrations together using the gum arabic paper that I had redrawn into- using the story patches that feature red on the costume. I wanted to create a collaged, dark and moody looking book that was full of mystery and emotion.
I also think this book goes well with the costume, especially if I can get the costume to open up like a tent/ theatre like originally planned.
