I started painting objects and animals off the list I made of imagery that I want to depict on my costume. This is a combination of animals, plants, tools etc. I painted these in purple and edited the colour on photoshop, and added textured brushes over the top.
Adding the textures really adds an interesting tone to the illustrations and I think will translate well into printmaking. The textures also make the drawings look like they could be from another time, and this fits in well with my old folk tale theme, as well as the old folky animal drawings I have been looking at.
I also started drawing on top of some illustrated end papers from a charity shop as an experiment, and drew a girl who would end up being one of the main characters of my entire project. I wanted to experiment with drawing on difference surfaces, kind of influenced by Margaret Kilgallen and her sprawling wall pieces.
